RAINBOW TREE PLAYGROUND OF SAN PO KONG

RAINBOW TREE PLAYGROUND OF SAN PO KONG redefines and elevates existing Choi Hung Road Playground by introducing a new undulating landscape bridge to create a seamless connection with adjacent uses and open space and elevation. This landscape bridge would be the extension of an existing hill, injected with new facilities and programs to support the park and create more space and layers to allow more programs. It is envisioned as a vibrant and dynamic community space that serves as a hub for various performance and sports activities, while incorporating sustainable and interactive elements.

Inspired by “彩虹” and existing characteristics of San Po Kong districts, this new playground d is born envisioning a vibrant and inclusive playground, converting 7 color of Rainbow that represents 7 existing identity of Choi Hung Road Playground to become 7 different multi-purpose activities that can be used to nurture the surrounding community as follows: multifunction wellness Sports activities, Performance area and event plaza, Interactive and Educative park, Industrial hub for market and showcase of local craftsmanship, Sustainable landscape and improve biodiversity, inclusive programs and facilities cater for Community, Renowned landmark to be preserved (stone wall, bridge, viewing platform) and enhanced pavilion is demolished to make room for Choi Hung Museum, showing local history of the district.

The rainbow color also used as the main color palette of the playground, vibrant and playful, reflecting the local culture and creating a visually appealing environment. sThe performance activity aspect of the playground is centered around a multi-purpose stage that can host a variety of cultural, artistic, and recreational performances. Providing a versatile platform for local talents to showcase their skills and entertain the community.

The new park and platform allow space for existing mature trees to grow, meaning the newly built structure is designed carefully around the trees, minimizing environmental impact. The playground incorporates green spaces, such as landscaped gardens and green roofs, which not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space but also promote biodiversity and provide shade for users. Rainwater harvesting systems are also integrated into the design to collect and reuse rainwater for irrigation and other non-potable uses, reducing the reliance on municipal water supply and conserving precious resources. The playground is designed to cater to a wide range of sports activities. Outdoor fitness stations and soccer pitches are strategically placed within the playground, providing opportunities for physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The design also includes spaces for traditional Chinese sports like tai chi and badminton, embracing the cultural heritage of the community and fostering intergenerational connections.

The concept of community space is at the heart of the design, with the playground envisioned as a gathering place for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Seating areas, picnic spots, and communal gardens provide opportunities for social interactions, fostering a sense of belonging and community engagement. The design also includes spaces for community events, workshops, and markets, promoting local entrepreneurship and economic vitality.
