RAINBOW TREE PLAYGROUND OF SAN PO KONG redefines and elevates existing
Choi Hung Road Playground by introducing a new undulating landscape bridge to
create a seamless connection with adjacent uses and open space and elevation.
This landscape bridge would be the extension of an existing hill, injected with
new facilities and programs to support the park and create more space and
layers to allow more programs. It is envisioned as a vibrant and dynamic
community space that serves as a hub for various performance and sports
activities, while incorporating sustainable and interactive elements.
Inspired by “彩虹” and existing
characteristics of San Po Kong districts, this new playground d is born
envisioning a vibrant and inclusive playground, converting 7 color of Rainbow
that represents 7 existing identity of Choi Hung Road Playground to become 7
different multi-purpose activities that can be used to nurture the surrounding community
as follows: multifunction wellness Sports activities, Performance area and event
plaza, Interactive and Educative park, Industrial hub for market and showcase
of local craftsmanship, Sustainable landscape and improve biodiversity,
inclusive programs and facilities cater for Community, Renowned landmark to be
preserved (stone wall, bridge, viewing platform) and enhanced pavilion is
demolished to make room for Choi Hung Museum, showing local history of the
district.
The rainbow color also used as the main color palette of the
playground, vibrant and playful, reflecting the local culture and creating a
visually appealing environment. sThe performance activity aspect of the
playground is centered around a multi-purpose stage that can host a variety of
cultural, artistic, and recreational performances. Providing a versatile
platform for local talents to showcase their skills and entertain the community.
The new park and platform allow space for existing mature trees
to grow, meaning the newly built structure is designed carefully around the
trees, minimizing environmental impact. The playground incorporates green
spaces, such as landscaped gardens and green roofs, which not only enhance the
aesthetic appeal of the space but also promote biodiversity and provide shade
for users. Rainwater harvesting systems are also integrated into the design to
collect and reuse rainwater for irrigation and other non-potable uses, reducing
the reliance on municipal water supply and conserving precious resources. The
playground is designed to cater to a wide range of sports activities. Outdoor
fitness stations and soccer pitches are strategically placed within the playground,
providing opportunities for physical activity and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The design also includes spaces for traditional Chinese sports like tai chi and
badminton, embracing the cultural heritage of the community and fostering intergenerational
connections.
The concept of community space is at the heart of the design,
with the playground envisioned as a gathering place for people of all ages,
backgrounds, and abilities. Seating areas, picnic spots, and communal gardens
provide opportunities for social interactions, fostering a sense of belonging
and community engagement. The design also includes spaces for community events,
workshops, and markets, promoting local entrepreneurship and economic vitality.
